Eduard Brunner: Poulenc - Sonata for two clarinets FP 7 - III. Vif. Vite, avec joie

POULENC, Francis

Sonata for two clarinets FP 7

III. Vif. Vite, avec joie

Eduard Brunner, guest professor

Ana María Carvalho, student
Carlos Pastor Vidal, student

For this final movement, there are comments on dynamics and character: it should be happier and “jocoso”. The student practices alone her initial part because she has to improve her rhythmical accuracy, and then the second clarinettist also corrects a fast-musical descending passage.
Prof. Brunner focuses on tempo and rhythm. He also mentions that certain word in the score doesn’t mean to play so forte. For a specific intervallic fragment, Brunner suggests other fingering and he works on it in detail with the second clarinet to obtain the proper rhythm and articulation.
Reaching the end, they should not hurry up. Afterwards, they should avoid prolonging the notes in the pauses.
