Joaquín Arias Fernández

Born in Madrid, Spain, in 1995. Between 2016 and 2021 he studied at the Reina Sofia School of Music, first at the Telefónica Violin Chair with professor Zakhar Bron and , since 2019, he studied at the Fundación BBVA Viola Chair in the class of professor Diemut Poppen.

He began his violin studies with Sergio Castro and Anna Baget in Madrid and later joined Musikene in San Sebastián with Keiko Wataya. He has attended masterclasses by Mimi Zweig, Daniel Dodds, Natalia Prishepenko, Mari Tampere, Martin Biever, Bartosz Bryla, Vera Martínez Mehner, Lara Lev, Christoph Poppen, and Miriam Fried.

As a violinist, he has been awarded second prize at the Llanes International Competition (Asturias). He has performed with the Adolfo Salazar and Musikene Symphony Orchestras. He has performed in halls such as Kutxa in San Sebastián and Fundación Juan March in Madrid. As a violin student of the School, he has been part of the KPMG Schubert Ensemble, the Stoneshield Quartet and the Freixenet Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Plácido Domingo, Peter Eötvös, Víctor Pablo Pérez, Andrés Orozco Estrada, and Jaime Martín, as well as that of the Camerata of the School, conducted by Anne Sophie Mutter. As violist, he has been awarded first prize at the 18th Intercentros Melómano Competition (December 2019), organised by Fundación Orfeo.

As a student of the School, he was part of the Prosegur Albéniz Quartet and Ensemble.
